How Can People Subscribe To My Squarespace Blog
Ever wanted to try blogging? You might have lots of ideas running around your head but you still don't know how to begin your first post.
Blogs are a great way to build brand awareness for small businesses. It helps you create a strong web presence and drive traffic to your site while providing useful and relevant content to your target audience.
Let me show you my exact step-by-step process for Squarespace blogging to help you get started!
Step 1: Brainstorm and research ideas for blogs
Check your ideas if they actually match your brand. Brainstorming helps me create, mix, and match all my ideas and scrap others that aren't exactly good for my brand.
To find ideas, you can start looking through Pinterest or Facebook groups. You can also monitor what your visitors are actually searching for on your website or take note of the questions your clients are asking you all the time.
TOOLS THAT HELP:
-
I use Trello to record my entire blogging process so it's easy to follow.
-
My ultimate blog planner makes planning a year's worth of content easier.
-
Answer the public is a great website to help you see what people are searching for when you are looking at keywords.
-
Sharethrough helps you to write engaging headlines. The higher your score, the more engaging it is.
Step 2: Choose the best topic
Not all the ideas you have should be posted on your blog (unless they're all really good). I filter my ideas by creating a category and then I pick the ones that are relatable, useful, and informative to my audience.
Make sure that your categories are suitable for your business for an organised blog. It's also easier for your audience to search for what they need.
For example, my blog categories include:
-
Business & Marketing
-
Email Marketing & Design
-
Entrepreneur Lifestyle
-
Logo & brand design
-
Social Media
-
Squarespace web design
Step 3: Write the blog post
I start writing my Squarespace blog by using my handy Google Docs template that I have set up so that I know the structure I need to follow for each blog post. I have a section at the start for any notes, links, or instructions. I also make sure to keep a note of keywords to make the blog post SEO friendly.
Then, I can either type out the outline of the blog post and what I want to say or I use a secret feature like the Voice Typing Tool:
Once I'm done with the blog post, my assistant takes over the editing process and works her magic.
The rest of the steps can be done by you or your assistant.
Step 4: Proofreading
We make sure that the Squarespace blog makes sense once published so my assistant corrects the grammatical and spelling errors or sentences that need some tweaks.
Google docs makes it easy to make comments and communicate changes and edits.
Step 5: Templates and guides
To make the whole process smooth-sailing, all the templates for the Squarespace blog, blog graphics, and opt-ins are all ready-to-use and are editable in Canva. I also have a Dropbox folder with images to use that I try to keep stocked up all the time.
THE TEMPLATES THAT ARE SET UP:
-
Pinterest graphic
-
Opt-in-graphic
-
Alternative Pinterest graphic
Step 6: Putting the blog post on Squarespace
Once we're done with the blog post, we transfer all of this on the Squarespace blog. A Squarespace blogging template is available so everything is easy to copy and paste.
Step 7: Insert blog graphics, alternative Pinterest graphics, and opt-in images
The opt-ins are scattered all over the blog post while you can see here that the blog Pinterest graphic is used on the top of the blog post and as a 'thumbnail' image.
We also create alternate versions of our blog graphics for Pinterest. If you click the blog graphic on our blog, you might see one hiding behind it!
Our Google Drive folder has stock images, collages, and other brand images. My assistant gets images from the folder and changes the texts using the Canva templates I provided to make the graphics suitable for the current blog post.
Step 8: Categorise the post
Just add the categories relevant to the blog post.
Step 9: Add related posts
A summary block is added at the bottom of the post to create the "Related Posts" section. These are blogs that are in the same category as the blog you're going to post.
Step 10: Change the URL
We change the auto-generated URL to a more SEO-friendly one which is usually the title of the Squarespace blog post.
Step 11: Schedule blog post
We often publish our new blog post every Thursday. To schedule, click the Draft button when you're editing on Squarespace to view options for posting. You can choose to publish, schedule, review, or save it as a draft for later editing.
Step 12: Save the blog post to a folder and start sharing!
Once published, the blog post document is added on our Google Drive along with our other completed blogs.
We also share the blog posts on Pinterest using Tailwind right after they are published. Tailwind is a great app to make sure you always have something scheduled on Pinterest.
This way, everyone can see the tips and tricks we have that can help small businesses!
